Beauty Booster Pink and Green Smoothie
If you tell me you don't have time for breakfast or lunch, I'm going to be skeptical. Not because I'm a jerk face, but because I'm a Vitamix owner. Smoothies are perfect for busy summer days. There is literally no skill involved and you can get tons of beauty nutrients in one press of a button. This pink and green smoothie has tons of fiber to keep you full but even more antioxidants for bountiful beauty nutrition. Insert adorable patterned straw and voilá! Breakfast.
When I was doing my clinical rotations to become a dietitian, I had to wake up at 4 something in the morning. Not cool. I, like many people, do not function that early in the morning. My solution for breakfast was to put everything in a blender the night before, stick it in the fridge and the next morning pull it out and blend away. And that is why I was able to actually see patients by the time I got to the hospital at 7. Well, that and wearing leopard patterned shoes hidden beneath a lab coat.
Pink and Green Beauty Smoothie
ingredients:
serves 2
- 2 handfuls of spinach, without stems
- 1/2 frozen banna
- 1- 1 1/2 C frozen berries
- 1 Tablespoon chia seeds
- water or skim milk, to thin to preference
Directions: Add berries, spinach and banana to a blender. Using frozen bananas/berries will create an icy effect to your smoothie. If you prefer a creamier, milkshake-like effect, use a ripe, unfrozen banana. Turn on the blender, periodically scraping down the sides. Add water and blend again until your smoothie is the desired thickness (bottom line: are you eating it with a spoon or do you want a straw?). Top with chia seeds.
Now let me warn you that you will either love or hate chia seeds. I think they're cool. They remind me of eating a ripe fig with the tiny seeds, but more importantly, they are an excellent source of omega-3's and minerals: ULTRA beauty food. Your hair will love you. Let me also say that you shouldn't be so quick to discount this 'green smoothie'. I know people say they hate green smoothies. This does not taste like spinach so it's a great way to get your greens early in the day. Hell, if you're really freaked out over the green, add a few more berries! Their marvelous color will totally wipe out the green.
