Grain Free Protein Rolls: 3 Ways
Disclosure: This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Weave Made Media®, and Hillshire Farm®, but all my opinions are my own. #weavemade #HillshireNaturals http://my-disclosur.es/RgFrEH
I'm the kind of person that needs to eat pretty often if I'm out and about. More than 3 hours shopping and I am only a sliver of time away from crumpling to the ground like a toddler because my blood sugar is so low. I also hate eating food that is so significantly over priced while being just not appealing to me, hence: I am the girl with the larger handbag containing snacks or mini lunches. Just call me Mom.
Bringing something to eat from home while you're out and about is smart and it's easy. But it takes a little planning and know how. You want something portable and something that doesn't need utensils. You also need a snack that will keep your blood sugar balanced so you don't have an energy spike and crash mid way through J.Crew. The formula for success? A carb plus a protein or a carb plus a healthy fat (think nuts or avocado). The problem so many people run into when building snacks is that the most convenient thing is only a carb. It's hard to find snack ready proteins for the average person. Until you look in your meat drawer in the fridge. And then look at it again as a wrap. Boom.
When I stopped at Safeway to pick up a few things the other day, I also grabbed Hillshire Farm Naturals® - Honey Roasted Ham to throw in our usual tomato sandwiches (YAAHS SUMMER!) but it really ended up being a fast snack that paired well with a ton of flavors (see below). No added nitrates/nitrites, 97% fat free, and no artificial ingredients, colors or junk. It's ridiculously convenient. Try it out and if you end up hating it, Hillshire Farm will give you a rebate, but if you love it, they'll give a meal to someone in need. That's freaking efficient.
Combo 1: Honey Roasted Ham with Neufchatel Cheese, granny smith apple, black pepper and honey
I love a few of these rolls on the run for the crisp apples for extra easy fuel! Honey is totally not necessary but I love a little drizzle on the apples inside the roll. I add two or three mini pieces of neufchâtel cheese on the roll, add thin slices of apple and then the black pepper and honey.
combo 2: honey roasted ham with neufchatel cheese, hot pepper jelly and green onion
Yes. So much yes. I had no idea hot pepper jelly would be this good with meats. Don't bypass the green onion! It's great for a little crunch and oniony taste.
combo 3: honey roasted ham with neufchatel cheese, black pepper and pickle spears
Pickles plus cheese plus meat. It's a match made in heaven. You could basically use any pickled vegetable, but classic pickle spears work well shape and taste wise.
