Travel Bug: From St Thomas USVI to NYC
You may have noticed it's been a liiiittle quiet the past week. And that's because I went on a for-real vacation. Not a work trip that happens to be awesome (what's up Napa). A-real-ass-do-nothing-vacation. It's the first one we've done in a solid 7 years and while it was hard to turn off email, it turned out not to be so hard after all as soon as we landed in the Caribbean. Funny how palm trees will do that to you.
After blogging for as long as I have, I've realized how important it is to go away and do rather than stressing over pre-scheduling content that's going to come off as hurried and half assed. So I went and left you with an empty plate! And while you can go to Instagram, where I reside frequently and see ocean water that looks like a pool (below...and actually a stingray went by right after) and the bevy of painkillers (a Caribbean cocktail) and rum punches I consumed, I know you guys will love what we have lined up over the coming weeks for videos and blogs.
Because, as I also unfortunately learned last week, over working yourself leads to danger. And as such, I stuck my finger in an immersion blender while making deviled eggs for a project and turned it on like a dumb dumb. At that point I promptly washed my finger, wrapped it in a dish towel, looked at Chris and said "help" in the most pathetic voice ever (I do NOT do blood). So he cleaned my wound as I looked away, accidentally looked at the bloody dish towel and passed out face first on the floor. Always face first when I see blood. I should also mention, I told him after coming to from that brief unconscious floor nap, to not throw away the deviled egg filling- fill the damn eggs and do the photo but also for the love of God, don't eat the eggs. And I'll show you that shoot later (it's up on Food Network right now actually).
So anyway, on these first few hours back from the islands, I'm actually re-packing my bags to leave for NYC tomorrow for two days for work. The Carlene of last year would never have agreed to this. But you know what? I've never been to New York, save a trip to the US Open (that doesn't even count!) and there's an edible house involved! Also lots of food spots I need to consume with my eyes and stomach! That being said...I need to finish packing. But if you have recommendations for Soho area stops, let me know on Twitter!
