What do you do when you have errands to run on the weekend? And it's raining? And chilly... Well, the fiance and I eat (self bribery)! More accurately, we scheduled in some restaurant time in historic Leesburg, VA (my all time favorite town and our wedding location) at The Wine Kitchen. TWK came highly recomended by one of my internship preceptors as a local and seasonal fare hot spot. So if a fellow foodie dietitian recommends it, it's gotta' be good.

Part wine bar, part restaraunt, TWK has an intimate French kitchen meets downtown vibe that is perfect for lunch or dinner with friends. Sourcing local foods and wine,we enjoyed what Loudoun county has to offer in a seasonally accurate way. According to the waitress, the menu items can change daily (3 changed that morning) but other menu items have stayed on for 3 years. The desserts are made by the two downtown bakeries, and even the soap in the restroom is from the spa next door! TWK also donates a portion of all weekday lunch proceeds to the Loudoun free clinic so you can lunch with a conscience.

What we ordered:

  • Sage and sweet potato gnocchi with beet sauce
  • Chorizo and mussels in tomato basil broth
  • Local wine sampler (all from Loudoun County)

What we thought: The food was great. It was simple; it was not overly done or piled with heavy flavors. And you could tell the staff thought so too! There were no salt or pepper shakers at the table which i loved from a professional standpoint. The portions were perfect so you could finish the meal feeling satisfied and not stuffed. Our lunch at TWK was delicious. We were still bringing it up about three hours later. The last meal out that happened with was in January, so you know I don't just call everything great!

Content, happy, and ready to finish errands!
