Southern Virginia Peanut Farm Tour
Reader pickup line: Did you know that a 12 ounce jar of peanut butter contains 540 peanuts? I will literally share this fun fact with anyone after my two days in Southern Virginia with the National Peanut Board. A handful of us from across the country came to visit Royal Oak Peanuts and Hope and Harmony Farm to learn about how peanuts are grown, packaged and of course, eat lots of peanuts.
I loved this trip specifically because I am a born and raised Virginia girl! While there are four categories of peanuts, one of them is specifically Virginia. Doesn't that make you feel all warm and fuzzy fellow Commonwealth-ers? There's something so special about seeing the way food is produced...it's beautiful and dirty all at the same time. And for some people it can be pretty eye opening. For example, did you know peanuts grow underground and have to be dug up and left to dry for a bit? Yah. I ate some right out of the dirty field in my boots. Talk about straight from the source.
