Currently Food Demoing...It feels so good to have this under my belt. My first food demo is complete! The Mid Atlantic and South East Dairy associations hired me to develop and demo a recipe at the Virginia Dietetic Association meeting in Richmond, VA. I love, love, love to give presentations! But this demo was so different because you have to cook and actually talk coherently at the same time.  Without burning anything. People asked me how often I do these...to which I answered "Um. This was my first one." I'm no Giada, but would be a blast to do more.

Currently cooking with Chobani...in DC at Culinaerie. My love dove Kara at Chobani told me they were heading South and I rejoiced. We cooked our dinner at this DC cooking school and dined with some fabulous other dietitians. First I grabbed drinks with Anne from Fannetastic Food at McCormick and Schmick's and caught up (thanks for this shot!). Then we cooked with several ladies including personal chef Sarah, Stephanie who works with SHAPE magazine , Amaris who works in PR and Rebecca (below) who I worked with while I was a student a few years ago. Excuse us. It was 80 degrees and the ovens were on.

Currently enjoying the weekend food... because during the week I was hardly home! From DC to Richmond and Baltimore, I didn't get a chance to eat real meals. There were fresh bagels. Microgreens. There was grapefruit curd with rosemary cookies at my favorite restaurant. It was just a good food weekend.

Currently landscaping...the house is getting a ton of outside work with the warm weather. We shopped at a plant sale at a historic local plantation. We ripped out a chain link fence and all that freaking ivy I mentioned last week. And then decided on a brick retaining wall and a ton emerald green arbovite for privacy, boxwoods and white hydrangeas. Check out the plans below...as of right now anyway.

Currently German antiquing...I have a list of things I've been scoping out for the house, so when I run across them and they are a good deal, I feel pretty good about it. We were looking for outdoor seating, wall art and a cow hide rug. Here's what we scored:

Screen Shot 2013-04-15 at 8.35.26 AM.png
  • white/tan cowhide rug for $50....usually for $175
  • signed vintage travel poster (left) by John Van Hamersveld for  $45.....usually $400. Oh. You might know him from the iconic Endless Summer poster.
  • a really gorgeous painting of an old man for $70.....that when we researched we found out was done by an artist who's work appraises for $700-1000
  • antique German biergarten table and benches for $256.... being sold new at Williams Sonoma for $600

Boom. We did work. Have you scored big in your career or on your shopping list?
